Mesh Tile Relief Maps: Content and How-to.

The .jpg images in this folder show the topography and spatial extent of each terrain mesh tile in the form of shaded relief maps of the digital elevation data. The names of the files represent their geographic location and are identical to the respective .bgl mesh files contained in the "scenery" subfolder. North is always at the top. The small gray crosses in the images indicate intersections of the 1-degree latitude/longitude grid. Note that the display scales may vary among images. Also, the geographic extent of each image/file is larger than its visual extent in MS2002 to allow for a slight overlap in the LOD grid.

I made these images in MicroDEM 6.0 freeware by using the following procedures:

File > Open DEM [name of terrain mesh tile in MicroDEM format]
Modify > Display Parameter > Elevation
Modify > Elevation > Colors > Land/Sea Scales (with Ocean Check enabled)
Modify > Display Parameter > DEM Reflectance Merge
Modify > Grid: Lat/Long checked and Lat/Long grid interval set to 1.0
File > Save Image, as "JPEG files (deliberate)", and compression set to 75

To use these images for navigation in FS2002, you will need a map of British Columbia and Southeast Alaska. If you don't find them useful, simply delete the "mesh tile relief maps" folder.
